About
The Pride of Toledo Chorus is a member of Sweet Adelines International. We sing four-part barbershop harmony, a style of a cappella or unaccompanied vocal music. The four parts are: the lead (sings the melody), the tenor (harmonizes above the melody), the bass (sings the lowest harmonizing notes), and the baritone (completes the chord, usually below the lead).
The Pride of Toledo Sweet Adeline Chorus was founded in 1986 with a commitment towards musical excellence. The chorus draws members from not only the Toledo area but from Port Clinton, Fremont, Tiffin, Pemberville, Upper Sandusky, Leipsic, Fort Wayne IN, Lansing MI and even Pittsburgh PA!
Pride’s members are from all walks of life – high school age to senior citizens – teachers, nurses, business professionals, business owners, wives, moms and sisters. Add to that a wonderful director, dedicated and talented coaches, emphasis on showmanship through choreography and bold and sparkly costumes. Our 70+ member chorus is eager to step up to the challenge of hard work and continue our championship accomplishments. And Yes, we have a lot of fun along the way!
Pride of Toledo is also very proud of a new endeavor, “Born To Be A Star” contest. This contest, hosted by Pride of Toledo, is for young women ages 13 to 19. Scholarships are awarded to the top five winners of the contest. To date, we have had two contests with over 50 young women contestants from area high schools and colleges and have awarded over $1,500 in scholarships. The next “Born To Be A Star” contest will be held in the Spring of 2010.
Master Director, Kay Seymour, conducts a high spirited rehearsal each week working on current music to keep the chorus top shelf and introducing new music for a well rounded repertoire suitable for anyone’s entertainment. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday at their very own “Pride” rehearsal site at 2530 Parkway Plaza in Maumee starting at 7:00 pm. Visitors are welcome.
